Our Story
Windfall Wine began with a dream—a dream that Robert Alexander nurtured for years before it became a reality in 2002. The seed of this dream was planted in a moment of spontaneity, during a casual drink with a friend. It was then that Robert realised the profound joy and challenge that owning his own wine farm would bring.
THE JOURNEY
The inspiration for Windfall came during a bike trip in Africa, where Robert first encountered the perfect wine—a Château Neuf de Pape. “This wine arrived like a mirage in a desert. It was bliss and real,” he recalls. It was this experience that defined his vision of a great wine: a perfect balance of complexity, a prevailing nose, and smoothness.
Robert’s journey into winemaking has been guided by the wisdom of many in the industry, and the most important lesson he’s learned is that you can never rush wine. Patience and respect for the process are key, and this philosophy has been central to the success of Windfall.
In just 12 years, Robert Alexander transformed Windfall from a single Sauvignon Blanc producer into a celebrated winery with nine wines, a Method Cap Classique, and a potstill brandy. This remarkable growth is the result of hard work, humble beginnings, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
THE PURSUIT OF PERFECTION
At Windfall, our goal is to consistently produce high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of our vineyards. Planted in the red Karoo soils and limestone of the Robertson Valley, our vines are nurtured with minimal interference, allowing the true character of the land to shine through in every bottle. We believe that great wine starts in the vineyard, and we are dedicated to making wines that wine lovers will appreciate and enjoy.
This is the story of Windfall—a story of passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of perfection in every glass.
